Mark spent his formative years in the mountains of Colorado picking up the skills that would allow him to bring back the images that editors and art directors have come to count on him for.  By the  time he went to college to study photography he was already skiing, swimming competitively, sailing,  running whitewater, hiking for days in the wilderness and at 14 became the youngest certified scuba diver in the state.  At Colorado Mountain College he not only vastly improved his photography skills but picked up rock climbing, search and rescue, EMT and other useful outdoor skills that would serve him throughout his career.
His range of clients is equally diverse:  National Geographic Adventure, Sports Illustrated, Outside, Men's Journal, Scientific American, Skiing, Runner's World, Entertainment Weekly and many more on the editorial side.  Nikon, Adobe, Adidas, Carhartt, Jeep, UPS, Salem, Cheerios, Kukuiula, American Express, New Balance, Saucony, Vibram and Royal Caribbean on the commercial side with a few annual reports, tv commercials, documentaries and one feature film thrown in for good measure.
His time spent all over the world, in all kinds of conditions and situations has made him acutely aware of the changes in our climate.  His opportunities to meet scientists and his voracious reading habits have convinced him that it is man made, and only with concerted effort and dramatic change will we be able to survive what we have wrought.  For years he tried to shift his career to work exclusively for clients working to make positive change and in the end decided to take a shot at causing those changes himself.  He currently serves as the Mayor of Milwaukie Oregon.  Under his leadership they have passed one of the most aggressive climate action plans in the state and are actively working to meet those goals.  This last year he ran for congress against a wealthy incumbent and lost.  He will continue to engage both politically and with his imagery to do what he can to make a better world that will remain as glorious for his kids and all living things in the future as it has been for him.
